Fuel wood pellets have the tendency of undergoing self-heating and off-gassing during storage transportation. Self-heating can lead to spontaneous combustion cause fires while toxic gasses such as carbon monoxide some volatile organic compounds released due are a human health environmental hazard. Previous research suggests that result oxidation extractives. The aim this study was identify extractives, i.e., fatty resin acids responsible for emissions monoxide, dioxide methane from by testing tendencies produced synthetic microcrystalline cellulose different additive oils. oils were intentionally selected represent types extractives (mainly acids) they included: tall oil, pine rosin, linseed oil coconut oil. highest mean concentrations recorded with added other four pellet negligible there no emission. Pellets had high off-gas content unsaturated compared types.
